Facility Notes

In DC, Steven Goff noted DC United is "planning to install safe-standing sections for the supporters' groups behind the north goal" at Audi Field. Railings will "separate the rows, allowing fans to remain on their feet throughout the match, as is customary in soccer." Several MLS stadiums have "such sections" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/28).

SHOT-BLOCKING: New York Arena Partners -- the developers of the Islanders' $1.3B sports arena and entertainment complex at Belmont Park -- "asked a state judge late Friday to dismiss the Village of Floral Park's lawsuit that seeks to stop construction." The lawsuit, filed last month, "asked a judge to overturn all approvals, stop construction on the site and restart the environmental review process." It "cited a flawed public bidding process and an inadequate environmental review that ... does not mitigate the project's negative impacts on the village" (NEWSDAY, 10/29).

NEW STRIPES: Auburn's "journey toward building a new standalone football facility took an important step forward" as the university's BOT yesterday approved the architects for the proposed Football Performance Center project previously approved in September. The architecture firms of Goodwyn, Mills, Cawood (Montgomery) and HOK Architects (K.C.) were "selected by the university for the project." Details have "yet to be disclosed or settled upon by Auburn" (BIRMINGHAM NEWS, 10/29).
