Durant last tried to buy a minority stake in DC United in '18, when a former general partner divested his sharesNBAE/GETTY IMAGES

Sources said that Nets F KEVIN DURANT on two separate occasions in the past seven years has entered into talks with DC United's ownership over a "potential purchase of a minority share of the club." Durant's first approach came in '12, when DC United's then-Owner WILL CHANG "sold a 55% stake." Those talks "stalled out when Durant and his business team decided to pursue other opportunities." Six years later, talks resumed when former DC United General Partner ERICK THOHIR "decided to divest from the club entirely." Durant was "looking to buy a minority stake in the team" -- under 10% -- and the two sides "re-started negotiations." The most recent talks failed because DC United "felt Durant did not want to pay market value for his share" (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/24).
