F1’s Mexican GP Will Livestream on Twitch in Six European Countries This Sunday

Twitch will livestream Formula 1’s Mexican Grand Prix this Sunday. The streaming platform will show the entire race for free on its website and mobile app in Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Luxembourg.

“Twitch has incredible reach, a unique creative spin on sports media coverage and an engaged digital audience; they are a perfect partner for us to be working with on this project,” said Frank Arthofer, director of digital and licensing at F1, in a press release.

Sunday’s race will be co-streamed by Twitch personalities who are popular with audiences in different regions covered by the deal. For example, German gaming influencer PietSmiet will co-stream the event for viewers in Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg.

The Twitch broadcast will also allow viewers to predict how specific drivers will perform during 10-minute sessions of the race. Twitch will then display a table of users, ranked according to how accurate their predictions were.

This will be the first F1 race to stream on Twitch, and is currently just a one-off event. There are no plans to similarly stream the final three races of the season. But the Amazon-owned platform has begun to incorporate more traditional sports alongside esports. Twitch now streams Thursday Night Football games and NBA G League games, and also streamed the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge this summer.
