MLB Heads Into World Series After Least-Viewed LCS Round Since '14

The Nationals' sweep of the Cardinals in the NLCS likely contributed to the low rating on TBSGETTY IMAGES

The MLB LCS round averaged 5.1 million viewers this year, as the Nationals swept the Cardinals on TBS and the Astros took out the Yankees in six games on Fox/FS1. That is the lowest figure for the round since '14, when the Royals' sweep of the Orioles (TBS) and the five-game Giants-Cardinals series (Fox/FS1) averaged 4.7 million viewers. Last year's LCS round -- five games for Red Sox -Astros and seven games for Dodgers-Brewers -- averaged 5.3 million viewers. Yankees-Astros Game 6 on Saturday night drew 7.5 million viewers on FS1, marking the cable net's most-watched telecast of any kind since the same matchup in ALCS Game 7 in '17 (9.9 million viewers, also on a Saturday night). Dodgers-Brewers NLCS Game 7 last year on FS1 drew 7.3 million on a Saturday night. Heading into the World Series, MLB postseason games are averaging 3.8 million viewers, down from 4.4 million last year and the lowest figure for the league in at least a decade. During its postseason game coverage this year, TBS won primetime across cable TV four times. Meanwhile, the MLB At Bat app saw streaming gains during the LCS round, with average daily unique visitors up 8% compared to '18. Turner's TV Everywhere platforms averaged 12.5 million streaming minutes per game for the postseason, up 73% compared to '17, which was the last time TBS aired NL games in the postseason.
