HockeyTech Launches Pixellot-Powered HockeyTV Community Network

Hockey analytics provider HockeyTech is launching the HockeyTV Community Network, a streaming platform for youth and amateur hockey leagues. Coverage of games will be captured by Pixellot’s automated camera system.

The community network will stream 40,000 games each year spanning youth leagues, minor hockey tournaments, and recreational leagues. It was developed as a complement to HockeyTV’s Elite Network, which focuses on streaming NCAA and elite junior-level hockey leagues across the U.S. and Canada. HockeyTech was founded by Stu Siegel, who was previously CEO of the NHL’s Florida Panthers.

Pixellot will install multiple cameras inside all venues where games are played. The company’s AI-enabled cameras can follow the action on the ice through a 180-degree panoramic view, effectively replacing the standard human camera operator. Broadcasts will include a real-time scoreboard overlay. Coverage captured by Pixellot will be streamed on the HockeyTV web platform and mobile app.

“We are excited to partner with the Community Network to bring hockey production to more families and communities. Utilizing AI technology games are produced at a fraction of the cost, resulting in more games being produced,” said David Shapiro, president of North America for Pixellot.

In addition to tracking flow of play, Pixellot’s AI can identify highlights, create replays and insert ads into broadcasts without human intervention. The company’s system is used by pro teams in Mexico’s LigaMX soccer league. Pixellot also has partnerships to stream youth sports competition with the National Federation of State High School Associations, NBC’s Sports Engine, and FloSports.
