Legal Challenge Against DC's Foray Into Sports Gambling Suffers Setback

DC Superior Court Judge John Campbell has "denied a request for a preliminary injunction that would have blocked a no-bid contract" with Greece-based gaming company Intralot to "manage the city's planned foray into online sports betting," according to Steve Thompson of the WASHINGTON POST. Campbell's decision Friday allows the city to "move ahead with the controversial contract." Campbell said that he "did not think" the lawsuit to block the deal will succeed. The Intralot contract had "been on hold for several weeks while both sides made legal arguments." The lawsuit, filed by sports betting tech entrepreneur Dylan Carragher, argued that the five-year, $215M contract "violated federal laws because District officials awarded it without competitive bidding" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/19).
