Jacksonville Close To Extending Deal To Retain Florida-Georgia Game

Other than '94-95, the game has been played at the same venue, now called TIAA Bank Field, since 1933getty images

City of Jacksonville Dir of Public Affairs Nikki Kimbleton said that a new contract to keep the Florida-Georgia game in the city "will be in place 'very soon,'" according to Eric Jackson of the ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE. The five-year deal the two teams currently play under was signed back in '16 and runs until '21. Outside of the '94-95 seasons, the game has been played at the same Jacksonville venue, now called TIAA Bank Field, since 1933. However, there has been "outside interest from others who have approached the schools about taking the game to a new location." The city of Jacksonville has been "proactive about securing a new long-term extension, with reportedly a provision in the current contract to start negotiation talks earlier than last time." UF and UGA receive an annual payment of $250,000, in addition to ticket revenues for the game, as part of their current deal. The payout "may increase too in the upcoming deal" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/14).
