Japan’s Top Soccer League Partners With WSC Sports to Create AI-Powered Video Highlights

The J League, a top professional soccer league in Japan, has announced a partnership with WSC Sports, an Israeli artificial intelligence video company. The league is utilizing WSC’s machine learning platform to create AI-powered video highlights for distribution in Japan and international markets.

The J League’s digital content arm, J. League Media Promotion, and Imagica Live, the league’s archived video partner, have integrated with WSC’s platform since the start of the 2019 J League season to produce video highlights for social media. WSC Sports editing technology analyzes live sports broadcasts in real-time and automates the production of short video clips for publication to any digital destination.

Leagues such as the NBA, MLS, FIBA, PGA Tour, Cricket Australia, and Bundesliga currently use WSC’s automated video production tools. MLS leaned on WSC Sports to produce around 20,000 videos during its 2018 season, while the NBA generated more than seven billion views on automated video clips published to the league’s main Facebook page over the 2016-17 season.

“When we were able to see that [WSC Sports was] able to automatically produce highlight packages for every single player in the league for every single game, it was a real eye-opener for us,” NBA VP of emerging media Bob Carney told SportTechie in August 2018.

Former NBA commissioner David Stern joined the advisory board at WSC Sports this past June. The company won last year’s SportTechie Award for Outstanding Sports Technology.
