Gronk Joining Fox As NFL Analyst, Will Debut Thursday Night

Gronkowski will do studio coverage at first, though it is possible he could work on some games eventuallyGETTY IMAGES

Rob Gronkowski has joined Fox as an NFL studio analystand is initially set to appear on Fox' studio shows, "beginning Thursday night" prior to Giants-Patriots, according to Andrew Marchand of the N.Y. POST. Fox could "use Gronkowski in a variety" of roles, like the just-launched WWE Friday night series "SmackDown." Gronkowski has "appeared at WrestleMania and would seem a natural fit to do more wrestling work." The initial move, though, is "about putting Gronkowski on TV as an NFL analyst." He will "begin in studio, though it is possible he could work on some games" (N.Y. POST, 10/8). In Massachusetts, Matt Vautour notes it is "unclear whether Gronkowski will serve in a traditional desk role or if they will use his big personality for more offbeat segments" (Springfield REPUBLICAN, 10/8). Gronkowski's role at Fox "likely won't preclude him from returning to the field should he change his mind about playing again" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 10/8). However, while some former players have "done TV and come out of retirement before ... this would appear to end all speculation" that Gronkowski will be "returning to the field for the Patriots this season" (WEEI.RADIO.com, 10/8).
