ESPN Creating Daily Highlights Show For Video Platform Quibi

ESPN has "agreed to join" Quibi, the "soon-to-launch short-form video platform" from former DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, according to Nicole Sperling of the N.Y. TIMES. ESPN's contribution, a "daily sports highlights show, is expected to air on Quibi at the platform's scheduled launch in April." The show will be "part of Quibi's Daily Essentials." The partnership is a "piece of ESPN's overall mobile strategy." Under the deal, Quibi "pays ESPN to create the show." ESPN, which will "retain ownership of it, will then license it back to Quibi." With the show still in development, ESPN Exec VP/Content Connor Schell said that he "couldn't share details of what the five- to seven-minute episodes would look like." He added that the company is "hiring a team to create it while also looking for a host or two" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/8).
