Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment and the Jazz promoted JIM OLSON to President. Olson, who had been LHMSE Exec VP and Vivint Smart Home Arena President, replaces STEVE STARKS, who earlier this year was named CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. Olson will now "oversee the day-to-day operations of the Jazz, and will also be responsible" for other organizational entities (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 10/4).
EXECS: The WNBA L.A. Sparks fired GM PENNY TOLER in the "aftermath of a profanity-laced tirade directed at players following a playoff loss, which included a racial slur." The Sparks in a statement said that a national search for a new GM "would begin immediately." Toler, a "founding member of the WNBA as a player" and the Sparks' GM for 20 years, also was the club's Exec VP. Sparks Managing Partner ERIC HOLOMAN will "take over her duties as the club searches for a replacement" (L.A. TIMES, 10/5)....Berk Communications named RYAN MUCATEL Exec VP & COO. Mucatel will be based out of N.Y. He has previously served as MWWPR Exec VP and Taylor Managing Partner (Berk)....The Missouri Valley Conference named ALLIE WIELANSKY Dir of Media & Administration (MVC).
