Online Rumor About Robert Kraft Buying Senators Debunked

A now-debunked rumor that Patriots Owner Robert Kraft is interested in purchasing the Senators is "very much a story of the modern age," according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston. Someone purported to be Kraft's granddaughter, Kathryn Kraft, posted a picture of Canadian Tire Centre on Snapchat with emojis of a bag of money and a handshake. This "suggested to some of the detectives online that maybe there is some sale imminent." But Johnston said, "This is not something we believe that has any credibility to it" ("HNIC," Sportsnet, 10/5). Johnston on Twitter cited a Patriots spokesperson as saying that Robert Kraft "doesn't have a granddaughter named Kathryn" (TWITTER.com, 10/6).

FED UP: In N.Y., Brett Cyrgalis wrote the Senators are "becoming an embarrassment." They are a "laughingstock, a franchise that is rotting from the head down." Senators Owner Eugene Melnyk has "buried himself in debt and lawsuits, his frugality unheard of in modern professional sports." But "more importantly, the business failings have led to an on-ice product not worthy of the league shield." Cyrgalis: "Enough is enough." It is time for the NHL BOG to "step in and make Melnyk sell" (N.Y. POST, 10/5).
