Orioles Players Send Hand-Written Notes To Fans After 108-Loss Season

Many Orioles players during the team's final homestand of the season wrote letters to "randomly selected season ticket holders" following a 54-108 season that set an "all-time attendance low" at Orioles Park at Camden Yards, according to Dan Connolly of THE ATHLETIC. Orioles Dir of PR Kristen Hudak, who came up with the idea after just 1.31 million fans came to the park this year, "didn't tell the players what to write, just a brief 'thank you,' in their own words." Fan services "selected a group of ticket holders with various season plans and gave Hudak the names." Most of the players who had been on the Orioles' roster for at least a couple months got a name, while manager Brandon Hyde and GM Mike Elias "each wrote multiple notes." Between 25-30 hand-written cards in all "were mailed out early this week." Hudak talked about the idea with leadership from other departments and "was told to try" the idea. She also talked to Orioles 1B Chris Davis as a "courtesy to make sure the players would be on board." Hudak: "They just acknowledged all the things that might be difficult about being a season-plan member and then offered a sincere thanks for doing all of those things and being part of this as we move forward to brighter days" (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/3).
