Jaguars Looking To Turn Minshew Mania Into Ticket, Merch Sales

Jaguars fans have embraced Minshew's eccentric wardrobe and his '70s-style mustacheGETTY IMAGES

The Jaguars are "counting on the rock star status" of rookie QB Gardner Minshew to "help pack TIAA Bank Field by offering" a Minshew Mini Pack, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com. The pack is a "package of tickets to the team's next two home games," and includes a "bandana, mustache and the opportunity to get a photo taken on the field wearing the gear." Ticket prices range from $41 to $600. Fans have "embraced Minshew's wardrobe -- jorts, headband and aviators" -- as well as his '70s-style mustache. T-shirts featuring Minshew are "popping up around Jacksonville and there apparently has been a resurgence in mustaches among Jaguars fans" (ESPN.com, 10/2).

JUST GETTING STARTED: T-shirt company BreakingT President Jamie Mottram said there is "a lot of inspiration" with Minshew, and "we've only just kind of scratched the surface." Mottram: "There's probably a lot more jean shorts and headbands and jock straps and mustaches in our future." Mottram said he and his company "saw the data spiking around Minshew, not just for his play but his personality." He added that Minshew will "get a royalty from sales of items through BreakingT's website and, starting next week, at Academy Sports and Sports Mania stores." In Jacksonville, Matt Soergel notes since this past Sunday, Minshew is the "fifth-best selling NFL player" on Fanatics, and he is the "top-selling player on the Jaguars." Mottram said, "He's the lovable underdog. Though after a month of playing at a high level, he might not be an underdog. Just lovable" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 10/3).
