Canadiens Owner Believes Team Now On Path To Success

Canadiens Owner Geoff Molson believes that the success of the team's parent company, Groupe CH, is "based on the diversification that Molson has spearheaded" since purchasing the company and hockey club in '09, according to Brendan Kelly of the MONTREAL GAZETTE. Molson, speaking at the Canadian Club on Monday, said, "My responsibility is to make every effort to have a competitive team, but at the same time as a family in this community, our commitment is also to keep investing and building." Kelly noted there will be "some changes to the Bell Centre, including a 200-seat luxury area to watch hockey games called Espace VIP." The Canadiens have missed the playoffs the last two seasons and three of the last four. Molson has "talked recently about the notion" that the team has an "eight-year window to become contenders." He said, "It's the next three to eight years, but it could even be one to eight years" (MONTREAL GAZETTE, 10/1).
