Fox Debuting New Tech During MLB Postseason, Including 4K HDR

Fox today is unveiling technological enhancements to its MLB postseason coverage, including that it will deliver the ALCS in 4K HDR for the first time ever. The 4K HDR offering is available through the Fox Sports and Fox Now apps, using Apple TV 4K and select Roku devices. The 4K broadcast is available through several Fox Sports distributors, including DirecTV, Altice Optimum, Verizon Fios, TVision and fuboTV. Roku devices with 4K support include Roku Premiere, Roku Premiere+, Roku Streaming Stick+, Roku Ultra and 4K TV models with Roku OS built in. Among other Fox Sports production tech highlights: In cooperation with Sony Broadcast, Fox is taking an 8K Sony HDR camera to select World Series games. Multiple Fox Sports "Dirt Cams" will be in play around the infield. A point-to-point FlyCam system, which debuted at this year's All-Star Game in Cleveland, will be used for select World Series games. 4D Replay, which incorporates 30-plus cameras arranged around home plate, will be used for the World Series. Fox Sports VP/Field Operations & Engineering Brad Cheney said the technology's ability to highlight the on-field action is the "intersection of art and science." Cheney: "The use of technology should always enhance the storytelling, bringing viewers closer than ever to the sports they love."
