MLB Franchise Notes: John Angelos Says Orioles Not Going Anywhere

In Baltimore, Jon Meoli in a front-page piece reports Orioles Exec VP John Angelos on Thursday reiterated that the team "would stay in Baltimore" in his "first public comments since last month's buzz around the city that the team was either up for sale or looking to move." The speculation was "fueled by the fact that the team's lease at Camden Yards expires" after the '21 season. However, the Orioles have the "option to extend that lease with the Maryland Stadium Authority by five years" (BALTIMORE SUN, 9/27).

STILL GOING STRONG: In S.F., John Shea noted Giants Exec VP/Baseball Operations Brian Sabean, who "led the baseball operations department for 22 years before transitioning to less of a hand-on role," plans to return to the team next season. Sabean said, "We're in the process of sorting that out as we speak. I'm quite sure my Giant career will continue in some form or fashion" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 9/26).

TIME IS NOW: In Denver, Jeff Bailey wrote Rockies Owner Dick Monfort has been a "good owner," and he "wants to win just as badly as anyone else does." But it is "still time for some change," and one man Monfort "might need to call is Dave Dombrowski." Not to replace Exec VP & GM Jeff Bridich, but to "become the new team president." The "time is now for an outside voice to join the Rockies family" (DENVER POST, 9/26).
