Franchise Notes

THE ATHLETIC's Pierre LeBrun notes months after the NHL Seattle expansion club named Alexandra Mandrycky Dir of Hockey Administration, the team added Hockey HOFer Cammi Granato as one of the team's "five first pro scouts." The NHL has been an "old boys' club for a long time," but some teams now have "begun to change that." Seattle "doesn't play a game for two years but is intent on making sure its staff will represent the values the organization wants to prioritize." LeBrun: "This is a league where women and people of colour are under-represented in impactful positions, but there are signs that's changing" (THEATHLETIC.com, 9/27).

RETRO FIT: In DC, Jared Goldstein noted the Capitals will "wear their alternate third jersey for 12 home games" this season. The alternates are "modeled after the team's original red jersey," and the red sweater "closely resembles" what the team wore from '74-'95 (NBCSPORTSWASHINGTON.com, 9/26).

HAND-OFF APPROACH: YAHOO SPORTS' Frank Schwab noted Broncos President of Football Operations & GM John Elway "hawks a lot of products." This week, it "just looked bad" as Elway did a "media tour for Endo Pharmacuticals, considering the team he runs is 0-3." Elway has been "sharing his battle" with Dupuytren's contracture, a hand condition, and has made media appearances to "discuss it in partnership with Endo Pharmaceuticals." However, is it "unusual" for someone holding his position to be on a media tour for a sponsor during the season. Schwab: "If the Broncos were 3-0, it's probable nobody would notice" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/26).
