NHL Kings, Sandy Hook Promise Partner To Help Local Schools

The Kings hope to reach more than 65,000 local kids and adults in middle and high schoolsKINGS

The NHL Kings will "join forces" with the Sandy Hook Promise organization to "help distribute its training materials to schools" throughout the L.A. area, according to Michael Hixon of the L.A. DAILY NEWS. The partnership is part of the Kings' ENOUGH social campaign, launched in November after the Thousand Oaks shootings. The Kings had been "providing trauma kits for schools in the South Bay, but many in the organization felt it wasn't enough." The new agreement between the team and SHP is for three years, and in that time both organizations will "work to deliver the Know The Signs programs to more than 65,000 youth and adults in middle and high schools" in the region, including at the L.A. Unified and Torrance Unified school districts. The Kings Care Foundation also "presented a check for $360,000 to Sandy Hook Promise to support the partnership" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 9/25). In L.A., Helene Elliott notes the "Know The Signs" program "isn't politically partisan." Kings COO Kelly Cheeseman said, "We did not want to get involved in the political conversation. That is not our place. But we do want to make an impact" (L.A. TIMES, 9/25).
