The Nets will play on a "brand-new court at Barclays Center this season" that will be light gray with a dark gray paint, featuring "hardwood light brown accents up and down the floor," according to Kristian Winfield of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. The new court is "almost like something" found at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Nets creatives said that they have "reincorporated influences from New York’s subway system in the new court design." The lettering for “Brooklyn Nets” on each baseline -- Helvetica -- is the typeface "used at every train station" in the city. The white tiling that "hugs the sidelines is the same tiling that hugs underground train railroads" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/24). ESPN.com's Zach Lowe noted the NBA said that it has "never had an all-gray court," though a few teams have "shaded enlarged logos and landscapes into sections of their floors." The Nets "anticipated some pushback." But Nets GM Sean Marks said that the league "liked the idea right away." The "only trick was getting the shade right -- dark enough to come across as gray on television, but not so dark as to muck up the visual experience." The team also "discussed placing the colored logos of all the subway lines that converge on Barclays Center somewhere along" the court's boundaries, but instead "opted for an ultraclean look on this first attempt at a gray court" (ESPN.com, 9/23).
