In California, Jody Meacham noted should the city of Santa Clara successfully end the 49ers' management of Levi's Stadium, there would be "issues that would have to be hashed out." A 49ers official said that the aftermath of a potential split "would be like a divorced couple 'living in the same house and sharing the kids.'" Hundreds of contracts from "luxury suites to food and beverage operations to sponsorships might have to be scrapped or rewritten because they assume one management entity at the stadium" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/23).
COOLING OFF: Butler Univ. has completed its $10.5M renovation of Hinkle Fieldhouse, adding "air conditioning in the practice gym, main court and corridors." That has "allowed the WNBA's Indiana Fever to move home games there" beginning in '20, during a Bankers Life Fieldhouse renovation. There are now "huge HVAC ducts" that "loom high in the rafters" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 9/24).
NAME GAME: The Univ. of North Carolina is "naming the field in its new soccer and lacrosse stadium" for women's soccer coach Anson Dorrance. Dorrance Field will be "officially dedicated on Sunday" before a women's soccer match against Notre Dame. Dorrance was hired as men's soccer coach in '77 and "added duties as head coach and founder of the women's program" in '79. He moved "solely to the women's program" in '89 and has won 21 NCAA titles with the team (DAILY TAR HEEL, 9/24).
