Larry Baer Discusses Suspension, Oracle Park Dimension Changes

Baer hadn't spoken publicly since returning from a suspension over a March incident with his wifeGETTY IMAGES

MLB Giants President & CEO Larry Baer said he believes things have returned to normal since coming back from a suspension, and that is a "great credit" to his colleagues, according to Henry Schulman of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Baer has "largely not spoken publicly since returning July 2 from a league-mandated suspension that resulted from a videotaped altercation with his wife, Pam, in a San Francisco park on March 4." Appearing on a Giants Splash podcast last week, Baer said in regard to decision-making authority, "Not much really has changed. I’m president and CEO, and I’m one of five board members. I think what a lot of people didn’t know was that Rob (Dean), as sort of the head of the board, chair if you will, was always involved before this, before March of this year. He was always involved as were other board members. I think Rob did an extraordinary job as interim CEO." Baer said Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi has "done an excellent job coming in at a tough time with this incredible recent history, and coming in from the outside, honoring that history but also being an agent for change." Baer also spoke about the possibility of changing the field dimensions at Oracle Park. He said, "Some dimensions may change, but I don’t think the view is going to be, ‘Bring in the fences to make it a hitter-friendly ballpark’ and do anything in the extreme. There would be, as a result of some of the work that we do, some changes in the dimensions as well" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 9/23).
