Bills Lead Way In Hiring Women Who Work Directly With Players

Under the Pegulas, the Bills have hired a full-time, female coach in three of the last four yearsGETTY IMAGES

The Bills this season "employ 12 women who work directly with players" either on season-long or two-year appointments, and they also "lead the NFL with three such hires this year," according to Jason Wolf of the BUFFALO NEWS. The Bills' three female hires (one full time, two seasonal) are followed by the Buccaneers (two full time), Raiders (one full time) and 49ers (one full time). The Bills have "hired a full-time, female coach in three of the last four years." The Bills' diversity "doesn't count those on the team's business side." Bills co-Owner Kim Pegula said, "We forget about it sometimes because everyone's always focused on female coaches. But everything from our sports science, our nutritionists, scouting, coaching, PR -- we've got a lot of women. Our strength and conditioning, physical therapy, athletic training. There's a lot of them." Bills GM Brandon Beane said, "We want to be diverse, because we think that makes us a stronger organization as a whole, from the top down." He said diversity is not only a priority for the Pegulas, but it is "very important" to him and coach Sean McDermott as well (BUFFALO NEWS, 9/21).
