New Texas Football Ticket Policy Creates Long Lines For Students

A "new policy restricting admission" of Univ. of Texas students to one gate Saturday "made for a two-hour wait and a block-long line outside Royal-Memorial Stadium, leaving student sections less than half-full through most of the first half" of the win over Oklahoma State, according to Kevin Sherrington of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Texas "made the change this week in response to what one official called a student 'stampede' before the LSU game" on Sept. 7. Students with the Big Ticket -- a $175 package that grants access to all regular-season games -- were "asked to line up" at a single gate on the east side of the venue, where there they had their student IDs "scanned before admission." School officials "hoped it wouldn’t prove as 'chaotic'" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/22). In Austin, Gabrielle Munoz reported Texas Athletics "reported opening additional gates, but student sections remained bare" at the 6:30pm CT kickoff. The game was a sellout. The long wait caused a deluge of complaints from student ticket holders on Twitter (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 9/21).
