NHL Marketing Notes: Crosby Leads Players In EBay Merch Sales

In Pittsburgh, Joshua Axelrod notes Penguins C Sidney Crosby "led all NHL players in merchandise sales on eBay" from August '18-August '19. Crosby merchandise "outsold those of other stars" like Blackhawks RW Patrick Kane, Capitals LW Alexander Ovechkin and Golden Knights G Marc-Andre Fleury. Pittsburgh is also No. 3 on eBay's list of "top merchandise sales by team." In terms of jersey sales alone on eBay, the Penguins were "only second behind the Blackhawks" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 9/20).

GET IN THE GAME: In Las Vegas, Alan Snel noted the Golden Knights have "created the first of its Vegas Born marketing campaign spots" for Year 3 with a "video focusing on kids starting to playing hockey." Golden Knights CMO Brian Killingsworth said, "We are looking to do more with the gold filigree treatment that is part of our gold uniform elements. You will see it in different executions this season, in arena, in our advertising and in the center ice logo." He added, "You will start seeing our full campaign launching in the market next week as we lead up to the regular season Opening Knight battle" (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 9/19).

LATHER, RINSE, REPEAT: ESPN.com's Emily Kaplan spoke with Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist about the goaltender's involvement with Head & Shoulders. Kaplan asked Lundqvist if it is true that he is "known just as much as 'the shampoo guy' as 'the hockey guy'" in his native Sweden. Lundqvist said, "That's what happens when you work with Head & Shoulders for eight years." On Lundqvist's H&S commercials running frequently, he said, "They do. It's been a fun relationship. They let me be part of the creative side. For years, we've been having a lot of fun with it. But it happens, people stop and say I'm the shampoo guy" (ESPN.com, 9/18).
