People & Personalities: Michelle Wie Impresses In Debut As TV Analyst

GOLFWEEK'S Forecaddie wrote Michelle Wie "sounded like a veteran" during her Golf Channel studio debut for Solheim Cup coverage. She "spoke fluidly but never redundantly, appeared comfortable and offered engaging insights without ever forcing her views in the name of getting attention." Wie at one point "explained the personality test players take to determine their place in team pods." It was "just the kind of insight fans love and often do not get" (GOLFWEEK.com, 9/16).

ENTRY LEVEL JOB? In Syracuse, Donna Ditota notes the Clippers have hired Noah Eagle, the 22-year-old son of Ian Eagle, as their radio broadcaster. Over the spring/summer after graduating from Syracuse, he "called college lacrosse on SiriusXM, worked the NBA Summer League for NBA TV, covered the Jr. NBA Global Championship, and worked for the Tennis Channel during the U.S. Open." Eagle will "replace Brian Sieman on the Clippers’ radio call (KLAC-AM)." Sieman is "taking the job as the team’s TV broadcaster" (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 9/17). In L.A., Tom Hoffarth wrote Eagle's hiring is a "low-risk, high-reward opportunity for both parties that could cultivate another franchise voice in the coming decade" (L.A. TIMES, 9/16).

BACK IN SWING: GOLFWEEK's Geoff Shackelford reports golf instructor Hank Haney has signed with iHeartRadio to "produce podcasts on a nearly daily basis, or less often when topics are fleeting." The move comes after Haney was "driven off his popular SiriusXM show on May 30 at the 'PGA Tour’s instruction' following remarks viewed as insensitive to Korean players’ domination in women’s golf." Sources said that SiriusXM "attempted to retain Haney, and the instructor remains friendly" with the network President & Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein (GOLFWEEK.com, 9/17).

NOT GOING ANYWHERE: THE BIG LEAD's Bobby Burack cited sources as saying that NBA reporter Zach Lowe is "staying with ESPN" and "signing a multiyear extension." Lowe’s contract with ESPN was "coming up and The Athletic had interest in adding him" (THEBIGLEAD.com 9/16).
