Proposed NBA Rule About Active Lineups Could Be Nod To Gambling

The NBA is proposing a rule change that would require teams to announce their active lineups at least 30 minutes prior to tip-off, a change from the 10-minute notice used in past years, according to ESPN's Rachel Nichols. ESPN's Nick Friedell said the rule benefits "gamblers and daily fantasy players." It shows that the league is "kind of leaning into the gambling foray and all the money that's invested on a nightly basis all over the place for people who play these games who want to see certain players play on their fantasy teams and how the line may adjust if a guy is or is not playing." Friedell: "It's another way the NBA is saying, 'Okay, we understand the money-making investment we've got going on both sides, and we want as much transparency as we possibly can get.'" Nichols agreed that the NBA is "leaning into gambling." She noted the NBA has a "history of thinking more information isn't a bad thing" ("The Jump," ESPN2, 9/16).
