Georgia Adds Seats For Notre Dame Game, Expects Record Crowd

Georgia will set an "all-time attendance record for Sanford Stadium" when Notre Dame visits on Sept. 21, as UGA "decided to bring in extra seats" for the game, according to Chip Towers of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. In the ticket agreement UGA made with Notre Dame when it brokered a home-and-home series to be played in '17 and '19, UGA "promised 8,000 tickets" to Notre Dame for this year's contest. The trouble is, Sanford Stadium "does not have the room to accommodate its home crowd plus 8,000 visitors." It has room to "seat only 7,500." To solve the problem, UGA is bringing in the extra seats for the "historic matchup." Temporary aluminum bleachers "will be installed on the West End plaza, underneath the Sanford Stadium scoreboard and at the back of Sections 143 and 139." So, the official capacity of Sanford Stadium -- normally 92,746 -- "instead will be 93,246 on Sept. 21." Tickets for the game are "expected to be the most expensive and sought-after in college football this year" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 9/11).
