The 12-foot-tall, 3,000-pound statues were made by Fisher Sculpture and designed by PopulousBEARS

The Bears unveiled statues of Pro Football HOFers WALTER PAYTON and GEORGE HALAS at Soldier Field. The 12-foot-tall, 3,000-pound statues, "sculpted by Fisher Sculpture and designed by Populous, are outside Gate 0." Several of Halas’ and Payton’s relatives were in attendance. In '09, Payton’s family "tried to have a statue of him placed just outside Soldier Field, but the Chicago Park District, which owns the stadium, declined" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/4)....Browns DE MYLES GARRETT is the new captain of the NFL Waterboys program, "dedicated to bringing clean water to East African communities in need." The program is the "cornerstone initiative" of former NFLer CHRIS LONG's foundation (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 9/4).

LAKE SHOW: ABC's JIMMY KIMMEL asked KOBE BRYANT whether he takes “any role in encouraging” NBA free agents to join the Lakers. Bryant: “I stay away from it. I'm real close with (Lakers GM ROB PELINKA). ... So we'll talk, often just as a sounding board for him.” Kimmel said Bryant could be Pelinka’s “surrogate and you could actually reach out” to free agents. Bryant: “I could, but I won’t. … Rob is more than capable of handling the job and all the pressure that comes along with that” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 9/3).
