UCF Looking Into Possible Spectrum Stadium Expansion

Spectrum Stadium was filled to near capacity last season, averaging 44,019 fansGETTY IMAGES

UCF AD Danny White said the school is "very serious" about expanding Spectrum Stadium as the football program continues to gain popularity, according to Matt Murschel of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. White said, "We don’t know yet timing-wise and we’re still building a waiting list (for season tickets) and assessing what that demand is.” Murschel notes much of the demand "comes for UCF’s student population, many of whom have been turned away from home games because of the lack of seating." That is a "concern for White." He said that "more than 17,000 student tickets were claimed on the school’s ticket app the day before the game, with only 12,000 seats available." White also "sees a demand for more premium seating." White: "Everything we do from a premium standpoint sells out almost immediately. ... If we did an additional premium tower, we would have no problem selling that inventory.” But White said that the school "must also look into what sort of demand there is for general seating." Spectrum Stadium’s current capacity is 44,206 seats and last season, it was "filled to near capacity after averaging 44,019 spectators during the team’s eight home games." White admitted there is "no timetable yet on expansion" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 9/3).

LET ME GET AN UPGRADE: Vanderbilt AD Malcolm Turner said that he "expects to have a clear picture" of the football stadium’s fate "between later this year and well before next season’s opener." Architectural firm Perkins & Will recently "completed an audit of Vanderbilt athletic facilities to gauge what needs upgrades and what is up to date." Turner: "(There are) areas that have created some gaps, where frankly we are behind." Vanderbilt Stadium has not undergone a major renovation since '81 (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 8/31).
