Wisconsin Pro Teams Partner With Honor Flights Program For Veterans

Milwaukee-based Stars & Stripes Honor Flight, which sends veterans on all-expenses-paid trips to DC, said that the Packers, Brewers and Bucks would "participate in an event that included three flights leaving for the nation's capital on Oct. 19," according to JR Radcliffe of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Two flights will "leave from Milwaukee, one sponsored by the Brewers with Brewers alumni on board and another likewise sponsored by the Bucks." A third flight will "leave from Green Bay, sponsored by the Packers and with alumni on board." Stars & Stripes Honor Flight's 55th "mission" will "honor approximately 240 veterans of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War." The veterans will tour DC "landmarks and tourist destinations," along with the "city's memorials and Arlington National Cemetery." Stars & Stripes Honor Flight President Paula Nelson said that the organization has had a "relationship with the Brewers in the past, but to her knowledge, it's a first-of-its-kind partnership between an Honor Flight organization and the area's pro sports teams" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 8/28).
