Tackled For A Loss: Brady Denied Trademark To "Tom Terrific"
Patriots QB Tom Brady's attempt to "trademark the term 'Tom Terrific' has been refused" by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. The USPTO stated Brady's application was denied in part because the "applied-for mark consists of or includes matter which may falsely suggest a connection with Tom Seaver." Brady's efforts "created a stir" among Mets fans earlier this summer since the Baseball HOFer has long been associated with the nickname. Brady has "up to six months to respond to the rejection." His request "will be abandoned" if he does not respond during that time (ESPN.com, 8/23). Brady had claimed that he was "trying to trademark the nickname to stop people from using it in connection with him" (NYPOST.com, 8/23).
