New Balance Partners With Gitman Vintage For U.S. Open Collaboration

Coco Gauff is expected to wear a bright coral shirt during tournament playNEW BALANCE

New Balance collaborated with N.Y.-based Gitman Vintage to "create completely different on-court styles for players" competing in this year's U.S. Open, according to Tim Newcomb of TENNIS.com. Along with a more "subdued tattersall (plaid) design and a 'Slambray' dress featuring classic fabrics," Gitman President Chris Olberding "celebrated the public courts of New York City with his rally court print." The design takes an "aerial shot of eight public courts, some prominent locations such as Central Park, plus defunct locations and lesser-known spots." While Coco Gauff and Reilly Opelka will wear some "combination of the court print -- expect to see a bright coral shirt with the rally court short -- Milos Raonic is slated to wear the tattersall design and Danielle Collins has a dress lined up for New York." The pantone colors found in the tattersall design "reflect the colors of the court surfaces of the Grand Slams: lighter blue Australian Open, orange Roland-Garros, green Wimbledon and navy U.S. Open." Off the court, Olberding created a "graphic tee that uses the rally court image in a circular design" inspired by the old N.Y. subway token from the late '70s. Expect to see players "wearing the tee" on the practice court (TENNIS.com, 8/21).

SIGN OF WHAT'S TO COME? ELLE's Hannah Nathanson reports Serena Williams at Nike's Queen of the Future event yesterday "wore electric blue cycling shorts," a nod to "one of the summer's biggest trends." She "teamed the cycling shorts with a tartan-patch windbreaker and a Nike Air logo top" for the event, which also included Maria Sharapova, Naomi Osaka and Sloane Stephens (ELLE.com, 8/22).
