Oregon Sports Betting Set To Begin, State Lottery Coming Later

The sports betting era in Oregon will officially begin next Tuesday, when the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City "starts up their games," according to Jeff Manning of the Portland OREGONIAN. The Oregon State Lottery is also "starting up its own sports betting games." However, Oregon State Lottery Public Information Manager Matt Shelby conceded that the agency will "not meet its goal of starting up in time for opening of the NFL season." He said, "It will likely be two, three weeks into the season." The state will "offer an app that allows customers to play anywhere," while the Chinook Winds sports betting will "only be available at the casino." The state has "opted not to allow betting on college games," but Chinook Winds will "allow NCAA betting" (Portland OREGONIAN, 8/22). Chinook Winds chose Las Vegas Dissemination Company as their "sports wagering service provider." The casino will be "offering a full array of professional and collegiate sports" (Lincoln City NEWS GUARD, 8/21).
