Media Notes

The AP's Joe Reedy noted for the NFL's 100th season, the "Sunday Night Football" opener will feature Carrie Underwood and Joan Jett and her band, the Blackhearts. The "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" opener song was adapted from Jett's '88 song, "I Hate Myself for Loving You" (AP, 8/20).

WON'T LET THEM BE: CABLEFAX DAILY noted earlier this month, beIN Sports submitted an "emergency application at the FCC, asking the agency to review the Media Bureau's July 2 decision denying its carriage complaint against Comcast." BeIN since March '18 has been arguing that Comcast "discriminated against its programming in favor of that provided by its own NBC Sports Net and NBC Universo." Comcast "dropped beIN programming" in August '18 (CABLEFAX DAILY, 8/20).

TAKING A STEP BACK: In Providence, Bill Reynolds writes he is "slowing down" after having been with the Providence Journal since '81. Now 74, Reynolds' plan is to "continue to write Saturday's 'For What It's Worth' column for as long as I can, and take it from there" (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 8/21).
