Minnesota United Owner Not Ready To Venture Into NWSL

Minnesota United Owner Bill McGuire has been asked for years about his interest in owning an NWSL franchise, but he said "not today" because he still needs to "improve" his MLS team, according to Andy Greder of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. McGuire said, "The first thing is we have to get our act together here with being in this new stadium six months." He added, "We have to secure our business and make it work and do everything to run our business well." More McGuire: "People shouldn't be jumping in to just, 'Let's get another sport' because there is noise about it. Those women are far too good of athletes for that. They need the same type of commitment." Meanwhile, Greder notes Minnesota United is set to host the USWNT on its World Cup Victory Tour for an "exhibition match against Portugal on Sept. 3." They are "expected to have a capacity crowd of more than 19,700 at Allianz Field" for the match (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 8/21).
