UFC 241 Breaks Live Gate For California MMA Event

Miocic's win culminated a night of electric fights that had the crowd at Honda Center buzzingGETTY IMAGES

UFC 241 at Honda Center on Saturday attracted a sell-out crowd 17,304 to see Stipe Miocic regain the heavyweight title after a TKO win over Daniel Cormier while drawing a gate of $3,237,032, a "California record by eclipsing UFC 60’s $2,900,090," according to Brian Martin of the L.A. DAILY NEWS. Staples Center drew a crowd of 14,802 to that card in May '06, which was highlighted by Matt Hughes-Royce Gracie. UFC President Dana White "attributed the success to the company’s deal with ESPN." White said, "This year, we’re going to break the gate record for the year. Almost every event we’ve been doing is selling out, and not just selling out, but crushing our budgets. International pay-per-view is up. The Fight Pass went up, even though were on ESPN+, ratings are through the roof. Every part of our business is through the roof right now, so the ESPN deal has been phenomenal for us" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 8/19).
