Bud Light Releasing Special-Edition College Football Cans This Season

A-B InBev

Bud Light in recent years has honored the start of a new NFL season by "releasing special packaging" featuring all 32 teams, and this year A-B InBev also will "release select college team labels," according to Aaron Calvin of the DES MOINES REGISTER. Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Alabama, Virginia Tech and Iowa will all have "special edition products" that will be available at the end of August (DES MOINES REGISTER, 8/14). 247SPORTS.com's David Eickholt noted while Iowa is one of the six schools that will be getting its own college-themed can, it "will not have the Iowa logo on it because the University did not approve it." Meanwhile, Iowa already is "planning on selling alcohol to patrons in the club seats" at sporting events. Iowa AD Gary Barta last month said that he "anticipates alcohol sales will be part of the Kinnick Stadium experience soon" (247SPORTS.com, 8/13).

CHARGING AHEAD: In Colorado, Mitchell Byars noted the Univ. of Colorado and Boulder-based Avery Brewing Co. are "teaming up on a new beer called 'Stampede' in honor of" the school's athletics. Avery brought in artist Neil Shigley to "design a special can for the beer featuring Ralphie, the Buffs’ live buffalo mascot." The beer is "set to hit stores in late August" (Boulder DAILY CAMERA, 8/14).
