FSU Will Sell Alcohol In And Around Stadium During Football Games

Fans that purchase alcohol will not be allowed to return to their seats, and must drink in a designated areaGETTY IMAGES

FSU's Doak Campbell Stadium will now "feature five locations where fans can buy beer and wine" during football games, according to a front-page piece by Wayne McGahee III of the TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT. There are "only two locations inside the stadium that will sell the beer and wine," as the other three concession stands are in "tailgating areas outside the stadium." These concession stands will "open when parking lots open and will end sales 10 minutes prior to kickoff." Fans that "purchase their alcoholic beverage will not be allowed to return to their seats with their drink." They must drink it in a "designated area adjacent to the concession stand." Beer and wine sales will "stop at the end of the third quarter." FSU has sold alcohol at the premium-seating Dunlap Champions Club "since it opened" in '16 (TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT, 8/15). In Orlando, Chaunte'l Powell notes alcohol has been "sold at FSU men’s basketball games since the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center opened" in '81 and at "women’s basketball games since the program moved from Tully Gym" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 8/15).

COMMODORE OPENER: In Nashville, Adam Sparks notes Vanderbilt will "sell alcohol at home football games this season, and the revenue will help fund facility upgrades." Domestic and imported beers will be "available for purchase through the stadium's licensed vendor, Spectra, in public areas of Vanderbilt Stadium." Expanded alcohol sales at other Vanderbilt athletic events will be "determined at a later date." Vanderbilt AD Malcolm Turner said alcohol sales will "enhance our fan experience" and provide resources for student-athletes like "facility enhancements and in other areas." Vandy is the fifth SEC school to add public alcohol sales at football games since the conference "lifted its ban" this spring (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 8/15).
