BMW Reverses Course, Will Renew Title Deal For FedExCup Event

BMW will pay an estimated $15-18M annually to continue sponsoring the FedExCup Playoff eventgetty images

BMW will renew its title sponsorship of the second PGA Tour FedExCup playoff tournament "starting with next year's event," reversing an announcement made earlier this summer that the automaker would not be extending the deal, according to sources cited by Teddy Greenstein of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. The three-year deal "will be announced in the coming days." This year's BMW Championship begins tomorrow at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago. BMW in June said it would leave the playoff event in order to "sink its U.S. golf sponsorship money into the 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits." However, the automaker announced a shift in leadership two weeks later that "appeared to change everything." The estimated price for the sponsorship is $15-18M (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/13).
