Oakland Urges Alameda County Not To Sell Coliseum Stake To A's

Alameda County Board of Supervisors President Richard Valle said that the county is "open to the idea" of selling its 50% share of the RingCentral Coliseum to the city of Oakland, instead of selling it to the A's, according to Ali Tadayon of the EAST BAY TIMES. Valle said it has "always been the county's desire" to sell to the city, which owns the other 50% share of the site. Oakland City Council members Rebecca Kaplan and Larry Reid "expressed concern over the potential sale to the A's, 'not for the purpose of a ballpark development, and without clarity of what the development would include or what community benefits would be involved.'" Oakland had "been in talks" with Alameda County since '15 to buy its share of the Coliseum site, but those talks "broke off in February." Reid said that he would "prefer" if the A's built a new ballpark "at the current site, 'with all the transportation infrastructure in place.'" Valle said that the "ball is in the city's court" (EAST BAY TIMES, 8/9).
