Atlanta United Closes On Land Deal, Plans To Expand Training Facility

Atlanta United "plans to expand its state-of-the-art training complex" after purchasing 17 adjacent acres of land for $9.6M, but the team has been "coy about what it plans to do with the space," according to Jackson & Mandel of the ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE. Atlanta United officials "declined to comment about specifics of the of the new land." Construction dates for the planned expansion have also yet to be announced. The land was "previously set to house a Topgolf-like golf entertainment center called Drive Shack." The deal also "came with a new lease agreement, elongating the initial 20-year lease with two five-year extension options the club signed" in '16 to a fixed deal through '41 that "includes options for five more extensions for five years each." The land is situated in "one of the fastest-growing areas in Marietta for businesses," and Atlanta United has "helped accelerate the redevelopment process by housing corporate offices nearby." The team's current 33-acre training complex "includes a 30,000-square-foot building and six fields." The complex "supports the daily activities" of Atlanta United's first team, as well as their youth academy (BIZJOURNALS.com, 8/7).
