Indians' Strong Second Half Leading To Attendance Boost At Gate

The Indians' three weekend series since the All-Star break have drawn an average of 28,466 fansGETTY IMAGES

The Indians are 37-16 since June 4, which has led to a "second-half attendance surge," according to Kevin Kleps of CRAIN'S CLEVELAND BUSINESS. The Indians' 16 home games since the All-Star break (12 of which have been wins) have "produced an average gate of 24,511." The total attendance of 392,181 for the 16 contests "includes nine crowds of at least 25,000 and four gatherings of 30,000 or more." The Indians had "nine gate totals of 25,000 or more and five crowds of 30,000-plus in the first half." The Indians' three weekend series since the All-Star break have "generated an attendance norm of 28,466." The 16 home dates in the second half have increased the Indians' average attendance "by more than 1,300 per game -- from 19,738 to 21,054." Still, the Indians average attendance "ranks only 23rd in MLB." A weekday series against the Red Sox on Aug. 12-14 "should draw well, and the pennant race, combined with the buzz that has followed the acquisitions of Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes, should produce better-than-normal crowds in September." This season's total attendance "should top 1.7 million," and, if the Indians continue on their second-half pace, "would approach 1.75 or 1.76 million." That total "would rank third in the last 10 seasons" (CRAINSCLEVELAND.com, 8/5).
