UConn AD Benedict Excited To Partner With Fox Sports In Big East

Benedict believes the school's women's basketball team will be a valuable asset for Foxgetty images

UConn is set to leave the AAC and return to the Big East in '20, and AD David Benedict said the school is "very happy" with the conference's partnership with Fox Sports and looks forward to learning how the net plans to "utilize the content that is going to be added to the league based on UConn coming in." Benedict hopes UConn will have "nationally televised broadcasts" for its men’s and women’s programs and believes Fox is "going to want to leverage and take advantage" of the content. Benedict said there are plenty of ways that UConn can "get the type of media coverage" it wants, and with the Big East move officially announced, the school can now "begin to have those conversations."

NOT THEIR CUP OF TEA: Benedict called the AAC's new deal with ESPN a "big step" for the conference. However, he clarified why UConn was "unhappy with it," saying it was "important to isolate the place that we were concerned about." Benedict: "We have the best women’s college athletic program, brand bar none, in the country. ... We were concerned, at least at this point in time with the plan moving forward, about that brand and that program not necessarily having the kind of exposure that it’s had in the past." He added, "It’s not why we made the change, not in any way. It’s just important for people to understand that" (“The Husky Inside Podcast,” IHEART.com, 7/29)
