Soccer Franchise Notes: Sky Blue FC May Move Game To Red Bull Arena

In New Jersey, Zach Miller notes tickets are "nearly sold out" for the Aug. 18 Reign FC-Sky Blue FC NWSL match. Sky Blue is "apparently considering moving the game to Red Bull Arena in Harrison to accommodate an even bigger crowd." In Sky Blue's first home game since the USWNT's World Cup title, a sellout crowd of 5,003 "showed up to Yurcak Field," which has about 20% of the "capacity that Red Bull Arena has" (Bergen RECORD, 7/31).

PRICE OF ADMISSION: In Cincinnati, Melanie Laughman noted FC Cincinnati season-ticket holders for this season "anticipated slight increases in costs" for the '20 season. Increases "range from $25 for some endline reserve seating to $205 for the highest-priced premium club season tickets." Prices for the reserved seats are $230 per ticket for the '20 season, an increase of $31, or about 16%, from the '19 general admission $199 package (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 7/30).

FLAG FLAP: In Tacoma, Andrew Hammond notes "talks are ongoing" between the Sounders front office and the Emerald City Supporters group "over the appearance of the Iron Front flag seen in the ECS at CenturyLink Field on July 21" in a game against the Timbers. The flag's "roots date back to the pre-World War 2 Germany and its meaning is to support groups or individuals who are anti-fascist." The Antifa movement has "used this as a symbol," and it "violates the MLS Fan Code of Conduct policy that the league has enacted regarding politically motivated flags or signage" (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 7/31).
