NHL Panthers Analyst Denis Potvin Retires From Broadcasting

NHL Panthers TV analyst Denis Potvin has "retired from broadcasting" after 30 years in the business following a HOF playing career, according to Barry Jackson of the MIAMI HERALD. Potvin spent 21 years with the Panthers, spanning the team's "first 16 seasons ... and the past five, when new ownership decided he needed to return to the broadcasts." The Panthers and FS Florida are "expected to consider internal and external candidates" to fill Potvin's position. Among the possibilities are Panthers VP/Broadcasting & Alumni Randy Moller, who has "served various roles as a team broadcaster for 21 years," and radio analyst Bill Lindsay, who "spent six seasons as the team's TV analyst before Potvin's rehiring." Retired Panthers G Roberto Luongo is "not being considered for the TV game analyst role at this time," though a studio position "could make sense for Luongo if he's interested" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/30). Potvin joined the Panthers for their inaugural '93-94 season "after getting his start in broadcasting with Sports Channel NY" in '89. He also called games for the Senators (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 7/30).
