MGM To Take Advantage Of Vegas Stadium Site With Tailgate Parties

Murren (l) said MGM will take full advantage of the stadium's location near the Stripgetty images

MGM Resorts Int'l Chair & CEO Jim Murren said that his company "intends to offer pre-game and post-game tailgating experiences before events" at the Raiders' Las Vegas stadium, according to Richard Velotta of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Murren said MGM will "take full advantage" of the stadium's location adjacent to the Strip by "hosting the most awesome tailgating experience before and after all of the events at the stadium.” Velotta notes the company "took a different stance in September." MGM President & COO Bill Hornbuckle then said that company officials "feared that fans would instead want to park close to the stadium and 'choke out' MGM customers." But Murren and Hornbuckle said that the company is now back to "viewing the stadium’s close proximity as an opportunity." Murren said that MGM is "formulating plans on how to best take advantage of the three MGM resorts’ proximity to the stadium." He added that he is "confident AEG will be able to develop more than 40 events at the stadium." Hornbuckle said that AEG has already "planned a new music festival this year" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 7/26).
