The NCAA and former Mississippi State football coach JACKIE SHERRILL "agreed to a settlement" on Wednesday, after Sherrill brought a lawsuit against the NCAA in '04. However, the case "remained outside the courtroom" until Judge DEWEY ARTHUR "took the bench earlier this year." Sherrill's lawyers "argued that investigators with the NCAA damaged his reputation and future coaching options by publicly naming him as a subject of recruitment violation allegations" in '03. Terms of the settlement "remain confidential" (Jackson CLARION-LEDGER, 7/18).

HONORS & AWARDS: The Univ. of Wisconsin Athletics HOF will induct Las Vegas Events President PAT CHRISTENSON as one of 12 new members of the Class of '19. Christenson will be honored at the football home opener Sept. 7 (THE DAILY)....Univ. of Alabama football broadcaster ELI GOLD will receive the '19 NFF Chris Schenkel Award on Dec. 10 during the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner. The award honors individuals who have had long, distinguished careers in broadcasting college football with direct ties to a specific school (THE DAILY)....Kansas men's basketball coach BILL SELF was honored as the '19 Kansan of the Year by the Kansas Society of DC at its annual banquet Wednesday (K.C. STAR, 7/18).

LEGAL MATTERS: An appeals court decision has given Palm Beach County prosecutors a "chance at saving their prostitution solicitation case" against Patriots Owner ROBERT KRAFT. The 4th District Court of Appeals "agreed to consider the state's request to overturn a key ruling in May that banned the state from using as evidence video shot at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa." Prosecutors have "acknowledged in court that the case against Kraft is unlikely to proceed if they are unable to use the video evidence" (PALM BEACH POST, 7/19)....A man has been “charged with forging the signature” of Oilers C CONNOR MCDAVID on team jerseys and then “selling them for big profits.” Edmonton police said that the 23-year-old man in April ‘18 “contacted several people on Facebook, claiming he was employed” by either Oilers Entertainment Group or Pro Am Sports, and was “selling autographed McDavid jerseys.” CHANDRA SINGH has been “charged with fraud” (AP, 7/18).

NAMES: Louisville AD VINCE TYRA was "rewarded with a pair of six-figure bonuses" at the school's BOT meeting Thursday. Tyra will collect $261,000 for "steering the athletic department," which comes in the form of a $150,000 payment for FY '18-19 and a $111,000 "pro-rated bonus for Tyra's previous partial year" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 7/19)....Seahawks CB SHAQUILL and LB SHAQUEM GRIFFIN promoted their new book, "INSEPARABLE," at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. The book details the twins' "inspirational journey," from UCF to the NFL, and the "challenges Shaquem dealt with after the amputation of his left hand as a child" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 7/19)....The Marner All-Star Invitational, a charity event hosted by Maple Leafs RW MITCH MARNER, is taking place Friday in Vaughan, Ontario. The event is “expected to raise something in the range of $200,000 for Marner’s foundation, which is dedicated to helping children in need" (TORONTO STAR, 7/19)....The PGA of America has named former U.S. Ambassador to the UN NIKKI HALEY and former PGA of America President ROGER WARREN as co-Chairs of the ’21 PGA Championship Council (PGA of America).
