In Houston, David Barron reported Rich Lord, one of the "longest-tenured voices on Houston radio," and colleague Mike Meltser were "informed Thursday that they will no longer appear" on KILT-AM. The station also announced the hiring of former NBA TV host Rick Kamla and former NFLer Clint Stoerner. Sean Pendergast will "move into the morning drive time slot" alongside former NFLer Seth Payne that was "vacated by Meltser's departure." Landry Locker and John Lopez will continue from 10:00am-2:00pm CT in the "only weekday daypart not affected by Thursday's decisions" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/19).
BACK IN THE SADDLE: In DC, Scott Allen noted Kevin Sheehan is returning to WTEM-AM on Aug. 5 and will "host a weekday morning show" from 7:00-10:00am ET beginning next month. Sheehan had been a host on WTEM through last July, when Silver Spring-based Urban One "assumed operational control of Redskins Owner Daniel Snyder’s final radio property and opted not to renew Sheehan’s contract." Sheehan then created his own DC sports podcast. So, when WTEM recently "reached out to Sheehan about a potential return to the air, he was excited but unwilling to give up his new format, which had more than five million downloads over the past year" (WASHINGTON POST, 7/17).
IN THE ZONE: In K.C., Pete Grathoff noted in the wake of Kevin Kietzman's departure, WHB-AM "hired Jason Anderson from its sister station in Louisville," and he will "host a mid-day show called 'The Zone'" beginning July 29. Soren Petro’s mid-day show “The Program” previously moved from the mid-day 10:00am-2:00pm CT slot to take Kietzman’s old spot (K.C. STAR, 7/19).
BACK TOGETHER: Bay Area sportscaster Greg Papa "made his mid-morning debut" on KNBR-AM on Tuesday and "started off by acknowledging Gary Radnich, the longtime station fixture he’s replacing." Papa is "reuniting with John Lund on a program" in the station’s 10:00am-2:00pm PT time slot. KNBR’s new mid-morning hosts "stuck to their usual easy-going, conversational format and were clearly pleased to be reunited after three years" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 7/17).
