Cavs' 2K Affiliate Announces Plans For State-Of-The-Art Esports Facility

The 2,700-square-foot space will open in the fall and serve as the practice facility for Cavs Legion GCCAVS LEGION

Cavs Legion Gaming Club, the Cavaliers' entry in the NBA 2K League, unveiled plans Thursday for a "state-of-the-art esports facility in Cleveland’s Battery Park neighborhood," according to Joey Morona of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. The 2,700-square-foot space will "open in the fall and serve as the practice facility for Cavs Legion GC during the season." During the rest of the year, the center will be "used for organized gaming competitions, tournaments, watch parties and events." The team "isn’t divulging how much the project will cost, but says it’s being '100% fully funded' by the Cavaliers organization through revenue generated through corporate sponsorships and with no public money." The gaming arena "consists of two six-person tiered stages facing each other, a huge 16x5 video wall and a capacity for up to 60 spectators." In addition, the center is being "optimized for content creation and distribution," with its "own production studio for video and podcasting, and a pair of streaming pods" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 7/19). Cavaliers Senior Dir/Digital Partnerships & Esports Operations Jonathan Sumers said that other 2K League teams have their own facilities, "but he isn't aware of any that are using their esports homes to host public events" (CRAIN'S CLEVELAND BUSINESS, 7/18).
